6 Foolproof Ways to Becoming a Morning Person

Do you find yourself moaning and groaning when the alarm goes off at 7am? Do you repeatedly hit snooze until you risk being fired for not being able to get out of bed? If you do, read on.

I never used to be a morning person, in fact, I missed out on lots of interesting classes in college because I refused to get up before 11am, until I figured out the ropes of this intricate way of life, and it changed me for the better.

1. Have a light dinner

We all know that if we eat a whole pizza before bed, we’ll sleep badly and wake up feeling heavy. Instead of having a massive meal before you hit the bed, try eating a big lunch and a light dinner.

If your body is not being busy digesting all that food, it will be humming along and sleeping deeper and longer, leaving you more rested.

2. Do some yoga

I don’t mean a grueling hour long session that will leave you sore for the rest of the day. I’m talking a short, 10-minute sequence of stretching and deep breathting that will energize your body and prepare you for the day.

You can find loads of great routines right on YouTube.

3. Meditate

This one is short and sweet as well. The great thing about meditation is that it helps you realize what’s going on in your head without having to block out your thoughts.

You can do it while sitting on the floor or in a chair, so no exercise needed here. The deep breathing during meditation will relax you in the morning and have your entire day flowing afterward.

4. Have a coffee date with yourself

I always wake up ready to jump out of bed, because I’ve got something to look forward to. You guessed it - coffee!

Instead of having coffee at home, which would cause me to lie in bed for an extra 20 minutes, I head to a coffee shop down the street and order an espresso, which I then sip on while sitting in a comfortable chair and reading the news.

You can replace this with a delicious breakfast option, the important thing is to get into the habit.

5. Get a buddy to feel your pain

Becoming a morning person will be easier if you do it with someone else. Make a bet with a friend and see who’s going to be up early more days than the other. The competitive spirit will jolt you right up.

6. Pick an exercise you like and sleep in your workout clothes

I know this sounds funny, but think about it - getting dressed can take forever in the morning and we already know that workout clothes are comfortable as hell, so just put your shirt and pants on before bed and wake up ahead of the game.
